PITS Handicap
System
(aka May's Law version umpteen)
For individual games -
- The handicap of the player with the best
stableford score at
each meeting (countback if necessary) is cut by two shots. This
handicap is shown in Red in the PITS H'Cap column and the score
achieved appears in column S1, highlighted in Yellow. The player is
required to play off this handicap for his next four PITS appearances
as the score moves to the right through columns S1, S2, S3, S4 before
reverting to WHS® handicap, shown in black, when the score crosses the
"thin blue line" to column S5.
- The handicap of the player
with the second best stableford score
each week (countback if necessary) is cut by one shot. The above system
then applies with the difference that the score is highlighted in Grey.
- Very occasionally, such as at a meeting with an
unusually high attendance, the handicap of the
player with the best stableford score is
cut by three shots with cuts of two shots and one shot for the players
placed second and third respectively. The above system then applies
with the difference that the best score is highlighted in Purple.
For team games -
- The handicap of each player in the winning team
with the best team stableford score at
each meeting (countback if necessary) is cut by one shot. This
handicap is shown in Red in the PITS H'Cap column and the score
achieved appears in column S1, highlighted in Grey. Each player is
required to play off this handicap for his next four PITS appearances
as the score moves to the right through columns S1, S2, S3, S4 before
reverting to WHS® handicap, shown in black, when the score crosses the
"thin blue line" to column S5.
- Quite often, such as at a meeting with more than 11 players, the handicap of each
player in the winning team with the best stableford score is
cut by two shots with cuts of one shot for each player in
the team placed second. The above system then applies
with the difference that the best score is highlighted in Yellow.
- Should a meeting have more than 35 players, the handicap of each
player in the winning team with the best stableford score is
cut by three shots with cuts of two shots for each player in
the team placed second and with cuts of one shot for each player in
the team placed third. The above system then applies
with the difference that the best score is highlighted in Purple.
The handicap of any player who is "placed" and who scores 40 or more
stableford points is cut
by an additional shot; 45
or more stableford points
is cut by an additional two shots; with additional shots as
each threshold of 5 stableford points is crossed.
Occasionally, a cut of one or more shots for the player with the
overall highest score in a team which is placed will be levied. In such
cases, the organiser's
decision is final.
Should a player earn an
additional cut before reverting to WHS® this accumulation continues
until the earliest score crosses the "thin blue line" at which time the
cut attributed to that score is added back to the PITS handicap.
A PITS handicap is never higher
than a WHS® handicap.
Team Handicaps
(Applied when the number of players in each team is different - usually 3s and 4s.)
Best Stableford Scores (2 from 3) or (3 from 4) - The team(s) with fewer players are given an additional 9 points.
Best Stableford Scores in a Multiplier (2 from 3) or (3 from 4) - The team(s) with fewer players are given an additional 18 points.
Best Stableford Scores (2 from 4) - The team(s) with fewer players are given an additional 4.5 points.
Medal Scramble
- The team(s) with fewer players have their team handicap increased by
the average of the handicaps of that team's players so as to level all
teams' handicaps. All teams then have their handicap divided by 10. To
compensate for the reduced number of attempts at each shot for a team
with fewer players, their team handicap is then increased by 4.5 when
playing a team of 3 against teams of 4 and by 6.0 when playing a team
of 2 against teams of 3.
