I believe Venice to be one of the most interesting cities in the world to visit and photograph. It is truly a unique and beautiful place and one of the only cities that can boast having no roads for motorized vehicles in the main portion of the city. "Rydal Water" Sam Segar |
||||||
Rydal Water is a small body of water in the central part of the English Lake District, in the county of Cumbria. It is located near the hamlet of Rydal, between Grasmere and Ambleside in the Rothay Valley. Numerous walks are possible in the surrounding hills, as well as a walk around the lake itself, which takes in Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, both homes to William Wordsworth, and Rydal Cave, a former quarry working. At the western end of the lake, steps lead to Wordsworth's Seat, which is considered to have been Wordsworth's favourite viewpoint in the Lake District. |

These Orchids were photographed in the Orchid House, Kandy Botanical Gardens, Sri Lanka. A macro lens was used with a tripod to shoot RAW files which were then processed using select techniques in Photoshop to render the already dark backgrounds to black. In 2010, the Falkland Islands held the largest breeding population of Gentoo penguins in the world, with an FC census recording 121,500 breeding pairs. Numbers in the Falkland Islands do fluctuate, but have averaged about 100,000 pairs over the last 75 years. Gentoo penguins are resident in the Islands throughout the year and distributed all around the coastline. This is the second largest Falkland penguin, standing at 76cm (30 inches) tall. It has a distinctive white bar over the crown of the head, a long orange and black bill, a blue-black back and under parts silver-white, and orange feet. It is very inquisitive, although easily scared from its nest if approached to closely by humans, which in some cases can leave the eggs or chicks vulnerable to predation by skuas. |

The Fairy Glen is a secluded and enchanting gorge on the river Conwy. A favourite with artists and photographers alike. Located only a short distance from Beaver bridge on the outskirts of Betws y Coed, a combination of rapids and cascades on the Conwy river that are chanelled into a narrow ravine. Wooded banks and rock walls clothed with vegetation add to the charm. |

The Liffey River flows through the center of Dublin on it’s way out to the Irish Sea and has a number of bridges that cross it including the Ha’penny Bridge that got its name from the old toll that used to be charged years ago. The Vikings originally inhabited the area of high ground near Christ Church and used the Liffey to moor their ships for protection from the sea. |
