Digital Photographer's Handbook - Tom Ang
If you're a beginner and new to ISO's, Spot metering and Apertures, its really
good. But it's not just that. It is full of really good advice, tips and maybe
more importantly, ideas. Every photo in the book has an explanation of how it
was taken and what equipment was used etc...
Photography Books This is invaluable stuff to
beginners. But the best aspect is the fact that it attempts to get you thinking.
It talks about project ideas and basically "getting you out there" taking
pictures. As for covering film as well as digital!?! Surely this is a good thing
as digital photography is based on film technology, where did the ISO come from
after all… It's a great companion and a great starting point in photography.photography books

Understanding Exposure - Bryan PetersonMore than 100 vivid, graphic comparison pictures illustrate every point in this classic and can help any photographer maximize the creative impact of his or her exposure decisions. Photography Books Peterson stresses the importance of metering the subject for a starting exposure and then explains how to use various exposure meters and different kinds of lighting. The book contains lessons on each element of the triangle and how it relates to the other two in terms of depth of field, freezing and blurring action, and shooting in low light or at night.
A section on special techniques explores such options as deliberate under-and over-exposures, how to produce double exposures, bracketing, shooting the moon, and the use of filters. Understanding Exposure demonstrates that there are always creative choices about how to expose a picture - and that the decision is up to the photographer, not the camera. Working the Light - Eddie Ephraums
Charlie Waite, Joe Cornish and David Ward are among Britain's best-known
landscape photographers, and all three regularly lead the popular workshops
organized by Waite's company, Light and Land, in Britain and abroad.
Photography Books Now, in
this first in a series of books based on the work of Light and Land, they each
write about the genre: how they came to it, what inspires them, their current
projects and the directions in which they see their work developing.
The book is
divided into three sections, each introduced by one of the authors: Wilderness
(Joe Cornish), Inhabited (Charlie Waite) and Inner Landscapes (David Ward).
Alongside portfolio of their latest work, each section also includes a selection
of work submitted by participants in the Light and Land workshops accompanied by

Developing Vision and Style - Eddie Ephraums
The authors are among Britain's best known and most respected landscape photographers; all three also write about their work in books and magazines and regularly lead the popular workshops organised by their company, Light & Land, in Britain and abroad.
In this book, they have combined forces to share their wide-ranging experience and expertise with those who aspire, as they do, to create images that reflect their own visions of a chosen landscape and which have a distinctive personal style. Alongside a portfolio of their latest work, each of the three authors writes about the genre for which they are so well-known: how they came to it, what inspires them, how each developed his own particular style.
The book also features photographs submitted in response to an invitation to participants in Light & Land workshops and readers of "Outdoor Photography" magazine accompanied by comments, critiques and advice from the three authors who suggest ways in which these contributors might further develop and refine their work.
The combination of stunning imagery with inspirational and insightful three-to-one advice makes "Light & Land" a truly unique experience, which no landscape enthusiast will want to do without. This is the second book in the "Light & Land" series which was launched in 2006 with "Working the Light".

Waiting for the Light - David Noton
A great deal has been said about this first book by the world renowned landscape photographer David Noton. All of it is complementary. All of it is accurate.
If you only beg, steal, borrow or buy one book on photography this year - make it this one. There are thousands of books which tell you what to do when faced with your chosen subject. David's book explains what most of the other books miss out - how to find the subject and then show it in it's best light. Read it, re-read it, then do so again - when you've done that, study his DVD "Chasing the Light".

In addition to documenting Europe's high-profile wildlife species, his work focuses on a diverse range of issues such as wildlife management, ecological restoration, eco-tourism and evolving land-use regimes. Untamed - Steve Bloom
For more than ten years, photographer Steve Bloom travelled all over the world, roaming
through the jungles of Borneo, the African savannahs, and the frozen banks of Antarctica
to assemble this dazzling collection of photographs of animals in their environments. With
an international range that is rare in books of animal photography, the 200 photographs
in Untamed bring to life a vast panorama of animal diversity, and of the landscapes,
climates, and habitats in which they live.
Here we see the serene gaze of a gorilla relaxing in the rainforest, a shark jumping in
midair to catch its prey, a Siberian tiger traipsing through the snow, and penguins congregating on an ice floe. Bloom’s anthropomorphic approach reveals rage, tenderness, and
even humor in his subjects, capturing those fleeting moments when the gap between
animal and human seems to disappear altogether. These amazing images, augmented by
a personal account of Bloom’s unforgettable career as a wildlife photographer, make
Untamed an essential volume for all animal and photography lovers.

Mara Serengeti: A Photographer's Paradise - Jonathan & Angela Scott
Mara-Serengeti captures the essence of living in the Mara-Serengeti region in a way that you would not experience in a dozen safaris to Africa. The images of predators, prey, wildlife migrations, and the Masai bring you close up during moments of blazing color in the sky and dramatic action in the grasslands. The images are improved by thoughtful essays that draw on the photographers' many years of experience with these subjects.
The animal photographs are mostly grouped by subject and include lions, leopards, zebras, wart hogs, impalas, cheetahs, wildebeest, hyenas, crocodiles, vultures, and wild dogs. The subjects are usually of animal families, migration, killing, and eating in often symbolic settings for these activities. The Masai images come at the book's end, sort of completing the evolutionary progression of the food chain.photography books
